Elephone
Based in San Francisco, elephone's dark guitar and synth textures, dynamic vocals and literary themes have earned them comparisons to Radiohead and The Cure in local and national press. Elephone describes their sound as a cross between Charlie Chaplin and Frank Lloyd Wright. The band consists of Ryan Lambert, Terry Ashkinos and Gavin Haag. Their mission statement is to bring honest music into dishonest times. Elephone isn't "trying" to do anything. They are reading the world in which they live and turning it into cinematic sound and song. Few bands in a local scene can collaborate this much talent and muster up this much energy in their live show. This is a band that is not following a trend but that is defining a sound and movement much like The Cure, U2, The Flaming Lips, Bjork, PJ Harvey or Wilco. Elephone's debut CD, A Far Distant Parade, was recorded in late 2002 and recorded by Ian Sefchik and David Kostner of Creeper Lagoon and On the Speakers. The single 1000 fingers has been featured on Live 105's "Soundcheck." In 2003 a three song EP, Still Life with Vodka, was recorded in a warehouse in Sacramento which captured the raw energy and emotion of their live sound. In 2005, elephone released a new collection of thoughtful, blissed-out songs titled The Shivering.
